Hours:                                     Flexible, between the hours of 9.00-19.00 Monday- Thursday 9.00-17.00 Friday

Salary:                                      £28/£30 per hour per counselling session

About Stop.Breathe.Think.

Stop.Breathe.Think. is a game changing mental health service that gives eligible young people aged 8 – 21 years access to free 1 to 1 online counselling sessions. First and foremost, we provide counselling for young people who would not otherwise be able to afford it. With no wait times and available nationally.

Our counsellors use a recognised solution-focused 6 session therapy model. Our service is guided by the THRIVE framework for child mental health care. Originally written to guide practice within the NHS, this model us now used nationwide, across a variety of services and organisations.

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate counsellors to join our growing online service. The successful candidate must have the knowledge and skills to provide quality care to our clients, be willing and able to work remotely (delivering counselling by video or phone call), and show a passion and enthusiasm for working with children and young people from varied backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Working within a team of counsellors providing high quality support to service users experiencing issues relating to their emotional wellbeing, in order to help turn lives around.
  • Deliver 6 x 50-minute sessions per young person, of person-centred counselling whilst assessing the needs of the young person and applying therapy methods accordingly.
  • Working remotely, being responsible for appropriately managing clinical risk when it arises and to communicate with the Stop.Breathe.Think senior team on resolution of issues.
  • To maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records on our Iaptus clinical database and abide by internal recording guidelines.
  • To maintain adequate CPD, to be responsible for your own receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines set by your membership organisation requirements eg UKCP,BACP, NCPS or similar.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and ensure that client confidentiality is always protected.
  • Be a self-starter able to manage own workload.

Essential Criteria

  • Either Counselling or Psychotherapy qualification accredited at Level 4 of higher.
  • Passionate about the cause – you have a demonstrated interest in mental health and motivation to support young people.
  • Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with children of different ages and from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Must be approachable and empathic for children and young people to be comfortable working with you.
  • Adhere to all professional, ethical, and legal regulations as determined by relevant regulatory bodies and the law.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability of dealing with confidential and sensitive issues appropriately.
  • Organisational, time management and problem-solving skills as well as emotional awareness, intelligence and resilience.
  • Experience of working independently and managing your own workload.
  • Willingness to attend team meetings, as well as training on topics relevant to our client base.
  • Enhanced DBS check (Stop.Breathe.Think. will process this).
  • Understanding of and adherence to all policies and procedures concerning the Safeguarding of young people.
  • Great IT knowledge with the ability to deliver online counselling sessions via video platforms. *Please note this service is fully digital.
  • Must be able to attend 9 out of 12 monthly counsellor meetings, held via Zoom.

Desirable

  • Experience of using Iaptus clinical software.
  • Experience of completing clinical assessments and understanding of PHQ-9 and GAD-7 patient questionnaires.
  • Experience of working in an NHS or school setting.
  • Adaptable approach to work with children and young people from a range of ages 8-21 years.
  • Knowledge of THRIVE framework and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.

Management and Support

Counsellors will report to Louise Donegan, the Head of Stop.Breathe.Think.

The Trustees will determine the overall direction of the Stop.Breathe.Think Service and will set the overall priorities in consultation with the Director and Operations Director.
