My approach to counselling is based on creating a safe space where we can work together to better understand the challenges you face. As your counsellor, I will accept and value your individual experience, being honest and open with you and working together to understand things from your viewpoint. Young people I work with often comment on how they appreciate feeling listened to and not judged and this is how you too can start to bring about positive change of your own. I work with young people who come to counselling for a variety of reasons, each with their own unique story. So, whether you are having trouble managing emotions such as anger, or you are experiencing anxiety that is impacting on your ability to do the things you would like to do, we can work together and start to find a way forward. I also work with young people who have experienced the loss of someone close to them.
Specialisms/Interests: Away from counselling I enjoy being outdoors, cycling and swimming, listening to music and making my own art.

I am a qualified BACP Integrative Counsellor, working with adults and children offering both in-person and online sessions. I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling specialising in children and young people and have trained with Place2be, one of the UK’s leading mental health charities in schools. In my work, I draw on modalities such as person centred, attachment, CBT, and Psychodynamic therapy, always keeping the child's needs at the forefront. I use creative approaches, including play, sand play therapy, mindfulness, and grounding techniques, to help children express themselves and process their experiences in a safe, symbolic way. My experience spans over ten years, with roles within the charity sector, youth helplines, family support, mentoring and education. This breadth of experience has allowed me to work with people from diverse backgrounds, providing me with valuable insight into the unique challenges people face, and how to support them with understanding and empathy. Currently, I work as a school counsellor in both a primary school and a secondary school. I advocate a whole-school approach to mental health to promote emotional well-being. My work includes individual and group therapy, solution-focused drop-ins, adolescent CBT, and crisis counselling. I also divide my time between providing online counselling for a children’s mental health charity, an adult counselling service, as well as supporting clients in my private practice. At the heart of my work, I have a commitment to building trusting, empathic relationships, providing children with a confidential space to regulate their emotions and share their life story.

May has been supporting, primary and secondary aged children in school and private practice for a number of years. By creating a calm space, this allows the young person to feel safe and at ease in the counselling session and in turn, begin to tell their story and explore things that they are finding challenging. May has extensive experience in trauma, as well as supporting young people dealing with loss, friendships issues, self-esteem, parental separation, anxiety, and school issues. She is passionate that no young person should struggle alone and she believes there's a strong link between behaviour and unmet needs. She believes that meeting those needs, can in turn build resilience and gain coping strategies for everyday life.

I specialise in counselling young people ages 14 – 25 and can offer a person-centred approach to counselling. Person-centred counselling means that my focus would be purely on what a young person wishes to bring to the session, as and when they bring it and would work with the client to work things out for themselves, without giving advice. As Carl Rogers explains “It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried.” (Rogers, 1951). Having worked in education for seven years, I have been able to really support the mental and emotional health of young people within my specialised age bracket and my four years of Samaritans experience has also provided me with the skill set to offer emotional support through listening. My main specialisms are: Anxiety, Bullying, Academic Pressures and Depression.

Hello everyone. My name is David and I am a child and adolescent Psychotherapist. I’ve been practicing for over 7 years and have worked in schools and therapeutic groups, as well as private practice, supporting young people with their mental health and wellbeing. I am an integrative practitioner, which means my training covered many of the different models and practices of psychotherapy, but through my experience I have developed my own model of working; adopting different ways of working and integrating them into my unique practice. I believe the relationship between a client and their therapist is the most important component in what we provide, with a strong relationship comes trust and the security to be brave enough to make those changes which changes lives. In the background I’m also thinking with theories like attachment, internal working models, transference and containment to help me understand my clients histories and how those are shaping their present. I also believe that play is a key element of the human experience and I look for ways to bring that in to my work, whether that’s through games, art music. I have worked with young people of all ages, from 4 all the way to adulthood, but I have the most experience working with adolescent boys which was something that fuelled my interest in helping young people who don’t have their Dads in their lives. I believe that supporting and nurturing our mental health is key to helping us lives full lives and making the most of our potential, whatever that may be. One of the reasons I decided I wanted to work with young people was because it was something I didn’t have access to when I was young. I feel it would have been really helpful and so I wanted to give that opportunity to others. I live in London and apart from my work as a Psychotherapist I enjoy playing Bass Guitar, woodworking, videogames and hanging out with my cat Pebbles.

I’m not very good at opening up or trusting people, so it felt so nice to have someone to talk to. My counsellor listened to me and the conversation never felt forced or anything. It also meant that I didn’t feel like I was putting so much stress and stuff on to my family. ”
